Javid announces Dorset reorganisation
Sajid Javid yesterday announced that Dorset now has the green light to go ahead with its plan to create two unitary councils. Currently there are two small unitary councils (Bournemouth and Poole) in Dorset, which are surrounded by a two-tier structure of various county council and district councils. After the planned reorganisation, there will be a single unitary council for Bournemouth, Poole and the area controlled by the Borough of Christchurch, and a single unitary council for the rest of the county area. The new arrangement is projected to deliver the area savings of £108m over the first six years. Read more here.
