GDS releases new technical API standards

A new set of data and technical standards for application programming interfaces (API’s) has been issued by the Government Digital Service, in a bid improve digital services and reduce costs. The standards place a particular emphasis on re-purposing and recycling government technology, and making better use of data.

The significance of API’s within the public sector has grown in recent years , as they provide the interface for developers to access rich data sources from government systems. This then lays the foundations for public organisations to create dedicated apps, which then provides scope for wider digital ecosystems to coalesce rather than tightly monitored app generating structures. Read more here
